Strange Mildew Smell When I Sweat Recently – It Stinks
Just recently I have noticed that when I sweat I get this mildewy kind of smell and it makes my clothes smell really bad.
I do sweat a lot and it goes along with the work I have been doing for 10 years. I have NEVER smelled this before and its not my imagination.
I have been trying to figure this out and the only thing I can think of is this summer I was stung by wasps several times and they almost lost me. I was put on a very high dose of steroids for the reaction.
After I was done with the steroids is when I started to notice the strange mildewy smell. Now, 2 months later here I’m still stinking with that mildew smell and I am on steroids again for
a sinus infection that wouldn’t drain that caused a bacterial infection.
I have been on 2 different antibiotics and I am getting better. Am I Crazy???
Do you think steroids can cause this smell?

I wish I could tell you what it is, but I know you are not crazy, because I have it too! The weird thing is, at least I think it’s weird– is that I only notice it under one arm, my right arm to be exact.
I was thinking it had something to do with the way I sleep at night, resting my head on top of my right arm usually with the pillow inbetween, causing it to be warmer then the other side of my body, but that’s just a guess and doesn’t explain why I have this in the first place.
I guess it could be “Bromhidrosis” which I had never heard of before reading about it on this website. I am definitely going to do more research. But it is good to know that I am not the only one!

One thing I read is the brain can over react if going through a period of sudden stress, anxiety, depression, and the like… if have a lot going on the body may try to compensate in order to make you feel more comfortable…
I too have noticed this smell however…
In fact When I notice it most is with undershirts… I took clothes off today after work and I soaked through my undershirt.. my work shirt and my flece coat right through the back of it….
I had it occur almost in a v formation … with most of it higher toward my back and on downward to a point like a upside down triangle…
\It is very curious because until maybe a month or so agao I never encountered this and it is VERY VERY disturbing. I have gone home and changed in middle of day because of it… The mildew smell is a good explanation of the smell… VERY VERY odd odor.
You aint nuts man….
That said how to remedy it… Im condsidering wearing less layers but short of not wearing a jacket at all not sure how else to make that happen.
It should also be noted I am in fact going through a sudden amount of stress in my personal relationships with my family and that may be the cause but cannot really say..
All I know is I know it is there… so I cannot imagine what other people are thinking. I am a clean freak so this definitly is disturbing.. How can this suddenly be happening when I am such an appearance and hygiene conscious person.
