Hyperhidrosis is indeed pretty common–it’s estimated to affect about 2-3% of the population. But truth be told, it isn’t too common that it affects a 12 year old.

Most cases are seen in people between the ages of 16 and 45. It’s rare, but it has been seen in infants, childrens, pre-teens, and older people as well.

I guess you could say it doesn’t really discriminate.

The thing is you need to see your doctor about hyperhidrosis because there could actually be some other medical condition that’s causing the sweating.

(Just click on that link above for more information about excessive sweating and seeing your doctor.)

There’s definitely nothing “wrong” with you, as you say. But there could be a serious medical condition that your body is trying to fight through that’s causing this excess perspiration.

When you go to the doctor (and please, don’t be embarrassed, it’s totally not a big deal) they’ll talk to you, let you know whether it’s something more serious, and then give you something to help whatever it is that’s ailing you.

Throughout the whole journey, you can come here to read more about it and share your feelings through the forums.

Promise you’ll go to the doctor?
